Reaching out to a therapist can feel like a big step, and it’s common to wonder what you’re agreeing to before you’ve said a word. The free consultation is meant to take some of that weight off. Here is what to expect.
It’s a conversation, not a session
We won’t do therapy in these 15 minutes, and you don’t need to tell me your whole story. The goal is simply for us to meet, so you can get a sense of who I am and whether this feels like a fit.
I’ll ask a few simple questions
Mostly, I’ll want to hear what’s bringing you in right now and what you’re hoping might change. You can share as much or as little as you like. If something is too hard to say yet, that’s okay. You don’t need a perfect explanation or the right words.
You get to ask questions too
People often ask about how sessions work, what my approach looks like, what I charge, and how scheduling works. If you’re wondering whether I understand what military service, emergency response, or healthcare work is really like, ask. It’s a fair question and I’m glad to answer it.
There’s no pressure to decide
Some people know right away that they want to move forward. Others want to think about it first. Both are fine. Sometimes a consultation shows that someone else would be a better match for what you need, and if that’s the case, I’ll tell you honestly.
If we decide to work together, the next step is an intake
That’s your first full appointment, about 50 minutes, where we go deeper into your history, what you’re dealing with, and what you want from therapy. It’s billed at the same rate as my regular sessions.
If you’ve been going back and forth about reaching out, a short conversation can make the decision feel a lot less big. You can schedule a free consultation from the Contact page whenever you’re ready.
